I got part way through this boxed set (~40%) when I gave up. The poor understanding of science and social dynamics ruined it for me. The author does not seem to understand how a vacuum works. He writes about the pressure wave generated by the space fighter. Capital ships are destroyed by the shock wave generated by other ships blowing up. Warships are flying so close to one another that when one is hit the debris that blows off damages other ships. The way weapon systems works makes no sense. Even things like FTL sensors that seem to work at one time and then don't get used when they would be needed. I found the part where a ship lost all power, even emergency backup, so the hero had to wait for his eyes to adjust to the dark amusing.The social structure is just as bad. Mixing of naval and army ranks within the same chain of command. Lieutenants giving orders to captains. Captains not actually commanding their ships. Towards the beginning of the book the majority of the people of earth discover that their entire belief system is wrong and yet they content to accept the new social order after a one minute conversation.Too much bad science and social dynamics for me to accept in what is supposed to be a science fiction book.
This is probably the worst rubbish I have ever had the misfortune to waste my time on.Obviously the writer is some kind of ultra liberal tree hugging/ bunny hugging liberal who cannot formulate his works without resorting to semi mystical beings with special powers when he is out of ideas.Scientifically ineptThere are no shock waves in the vacuum of space, an atmosphere is needed for that.One cannot hear “a very loud bang†in space for the very same reason.Utter garbage.
It was an interesting and enjoyable romp until it got on the subject of animal cruelty, and such. I am sorry I purchased this crap!
If you want a 5 book thrill ride that will have you burning through the pages at FTL speed then this is the series you want! Far better than Star Wars, Battlestar Glactica or any other sci-fi series ever made. When they make this into a movie I will 've in a seat for every showing!The action is non-stop and gathers together the galaxy in the battle to save earth. Also, in a great twist, the gods from Greek mythology play a key role. Don't miss out on this great opportunity. I happily award 5 Stars!!
This is one of the best series I have read and I have been reading this genre for over 40 years! It uniquely blends traditional Sci-fi on a grand scale with ancient Earth Roman and Greek gods and related creatures. It is fast paced and full of space battles with innovative weaponry and tactics. It still manages character development with side romance stories. The writer gives us a perspective on how our current earth cultures may appear to those with fresh eyes but without becoming mired in political commentary. It appears well edited without the errors that some publications include which annoy readers. Can't wait for book 6 which is due out soon.
I really enjoyed the story and characters for the first few books. But not much changed from book to book. The main character looked for and chased down the bad character but then let him go. This repeated through each book. It got boring so I stopped reading.
Big and original concept. Good action. Rather adolescent characters and dialogue. I enjoyed it. Got on sale.
This is a great way to purchase the first five books in the series. Great storyline, compelling characters, and action from start to finish.
