Review

"Every story held powerful life lessons for me--and I think all readers may have the same experience. This fantastic collection of memories, hopes, and dreams will inspire readers to never forgot that we all are truly "in this together." --Mark Ritchie, former secretary of state of Minnesota ""Green Card Youth Voices" is one of the most powerful collections of authentic immigrant voices I've ever come across. Within these pages you will find the hopes, dreams, and sheer fortitude of our country's future innovators and teachers. Their words will impress upon you the very fabric of what has made our country a beacon of hope for so many across the world. I look forward to sharing this anthology with my students and teachers--the stories in "Green Card Youth Voices" are inspiring and will empower communities nationwide for years to come." --Sylvia Beevas-Smith, high school principal and campus director, Carmen Schools of Science & Technology, Milwaukee "Let no one doubt the bravery and resilience of young new Americans. "Green Card Youth Voices" introduces readers to Minnesota youth who have made extraordinary journeys and have much to contribute to this state's future. Their stories will promote understanding and assurance about the value of this state's growing diversity." --Lori Sturdevant, editorial writer and columnist at the Star Tribune "The migrant crises in the Middle East, as well as Central America, Europe, and Africa, are ongoing and have put refugees in the headlines. Yet in report after report, countless human tragedies are reduced to mere numbers. Individual stories such as these add a face to the news, touch our hearts, and lead to greater understanding in a way in a way that newscasts and headlines can't. By experiencing the discomfort, fears, and triumphs of these individuals, these immigrant stories resonate especially strongly at this moment of ongoing refugee crises and shed light on the immigration here in the U.S. and abroad." --Judy A. Bernstein, author of "They Poured Fire On Us From the Sky:The True Story of Three Lost Boys of Sudan" ""Green Card Youth Voices" speaks eloquently with the innocence and authenticity of young people finding their way in a strange land--our land. By reading these moving stories, we enter their world and begin to understand the challenges they face, and we emerge with profound respect for who they are and appreciation for what they add to our lives and our culture." --Charles F. "Chic" Dambach, former president of Alliance for PeacebuildingÂ

Honest true stories written by young students new to this country - and WOW - we welcome them all.

Highly recommended, the stories in this book highlight the struggle, obstacles and perseverance of young people thrust into an unknown world. For the average person, any number of the experiences recalled by the authors would be profoundly difficult and yet with grace and courage each are able to overcome and begin again. Your emotions will span the spectrum of sadness, defeat, concern, courage and strength. A brilliantly inspiring collection.

This book is a wonderful way to put a "face" on the lives of immigrants, many are coming to the US to start better lives away from war and poverty. They are stories of loss and hope and resiliency. The students are all seeking their dreams in a place where they can actually become reality. You will be surprised at the diversity of their experiences and histories. Plus the book includes a study guide for book groups or classroom teachers. The book has recently won the Gold Moonbeam Children's Book Award and it is well deserved!

This is a terrific chance to hear young immigrants telling their own stories. Reading Green Card Youth Voices helped me understand more about the many challenges and obstacles so many people have endured to get to America.I keep thinking of all the kids who wrote about living years without one or both parents. So many families divided, for so long, as they try to make a better life for the kids. This book is worth reading-- it's really the story of America's future.

An inspiring compilation of stories!
