Orion Carloto is a writer, poet, and influencer born and raised in a small town in Georgia. Popularly known on Youtube, Orion seeks to create a visual dream world for the lovers, the dreamers, and the brokenhearted. This book was profoundly mediocre. Orion seems like a very sweet girl, but her poetry is very cliche and predictable.
I want to be 100% honest and back up my thoughts in this review. I am in no way trying to be harsh.I love Orion. Like so many, I have followed her for years on Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube.. you name it.I did not go into this book having high expectations, or any expectations really, since I appreciate her as a person, I wanted to give her a completely fair chance as a writer. Seeing snipits of her writing over the years has always brought me joy, but this book was a let down.It is way shorter than I would have imagined. Filled with illustrations that I'm unsure if she drew or not as there is an art director credited but no illustrator listed (as far as I can tell), scanned polaroids and journal pages. I love love love the journal pages and polaroids, as it adds to the Orion aesthetic, but there is not enough substantial writing in this book to back it up. They feel like filler pages. There are 181 pages: the writing is only on one page (primarily the right page, with a handful of poems shown on both sides) throughout the book, which realistically leaves you with about 90 pages of writing. Then you have 10 total outro pages, 5 pages with only illustrations or polaroids, AND 12 pages of 1 liners/1 sentence poems. This is not something that is worth $16.99. If it was half the price, it would be.It is well-known that Orion has such a large online following, and there are some reviews that credit her following with having the opportunity of being published.. that I did not want to believe; however, after reading this it feels slightly true :(I admire and aspire to be like Orion in so many ways and I still do.
I had such high hopes for this as I love Orion’s creative direction. But this seemed a bit watered down. There are SO many blank pages that are clearly taking up space. Without them, this book is actually only about 80 pages. If that. I don’t understand. And for $16.99? You’re not missing out on much if you don’t get this. Not even sure I’d call this a book.
I love Orion and I love this book but the first few pages came a little bent and I like to have my books looking nice. Do better with shipping books, Amazon. I was so excited about this I preordered it but I wish would’ve just bought it at the store. This book is so beautiful, I really felt all of it.
This was a gift for a friend’s birthday (27th) who actually asked for the book herself. She went through it quite quickly. Absolutely loved it and will be borrowing it from her upon her recommendation.
Orion is a goddess. I have adored her for years and was so happy to have a physical copy of her artistic excellence. The cover art is beautiful. The finish and overall quality makes it a treasure. Her words will resonate with parts of you that you’ve long forgotten and she meets your deepest pain with mutual understanding.
Parts do seem a little contrived, but for the most part very beautiful/relatable writing.
Orion is so lovely. Her words make you cry but in the best way. Everyone needs to buy
