If you're a Bluegrass Festival participant this book IS a must! It's got most of the songs you'll ever need to know. This one book will give you enough lyrics/chords/basic notes for melody, that you'll be set for a whole wknd of fun jamming! My husband and I just ordered our second one. I play upright bass/guitar, he plays guitar/harmonica/banjo/fiddle. We wore out the first! It's an excellent gift for anyone who is just starting to go to Bluegrass Festivals around the country. They'll appreciate this book!
I had purchased another book that didn't have the melody, because I was supposed to learn it by ear. That was quite hard. So I purchased this one and I really like having the melody written out in musican notation. I play fiddle and I'm learning baritone uke, so it's good to have real notation and not tab. The song selection is quite nice. I think to be prepared at a jam session it's good to have a few and this one is really good, especially if you want to play the melody. It's not easy to keep it open so I may have it spiral bounded.
While to songs are great. In the digital edition the text only takes up about 1/3 of the available page/screen size. This means that each page default to a text size that is too small to easily read. Buy the real book. Don't waste your money on the digital version. See picture of problem. I used the same page that amazon uses for an example. If I displayed like they show it does this would be a five star purchase.
I would have happily kept this book. It looks well-written except for one thing: There is no Table of Contents! Just about impossible to use on a Kindle. Author, or whoever created this digital book, please supply a TOC and perhaps I will buy again.
Good resource. Sitting in with some folks and this book was recommended. There are a few minor discrepancies between the music and verses, but great layout and selection. It would be beneficial to have a spiral-bound option, but you can convert this version at a printer for a few dollars.
I play the mandolin and my wife plays the guitar, I am a novice and she a beginner, and this book is really easy to flip into a random song and just play, and long as you are familiar with the rhythm and cadence of the version of the song you want to play. Youtube is a great resource to look up a version you like. Please note that there is no tablature only musical notes and chords with lyrics.
This song collection is very well put together with all of the important elements in a good fake book: Easy to read chords, lyrics and melodies. The song choices are great and I am already enjoying learning some of these on guitar.
I recently purchased a banjo, and the Bluegrass Fakebook is making learning to play the banjo easy. Many songs to choose from, and a banjo chord chart. This is a wonderful book.
