There were great manuscript illustrations but they were so small that the details were lost. The lay out wasted a lot of space with empty white areas that could have been better used to enlarge the photo so you could actually see the illustrations.
Amazing book. Worth every penny.
Illuminations are beautiful, thorough documentation through a long time period. Of course, I would not expect anything less of Backhouse.
Although this is an overview book, there is so much here to recommend it to the artist. I do C&I for my historical group (SCA) and this is such a wonderful source!
