Mark Batterson is the New York Times best-selling author of fifteen books, including The Circle Maker, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, and Chase the Lion. This book is just amazing! I've read many books on hearing God's voice, and this book is the best so far! Hearing the voice of God is simply the most amazing experience for me so far in my life! The bible instructs us not to be foolish but to know the will of God. He communicates with us constantly, and one of the ways is through the still small voice! After reading as many books as I can on the subject and reserving for times of quiet stillness, I am constantly hearing from Him! Thank you Lord! Another reason we need to listen to Him is so that as God says through the bible we need to obey Him and to do His will and do what is pleasing in His eyes. Listening closely to Him allows us to follow what He says to us in every decision in our lives, during every seconds of our lives, in addition to following His known revealed will as instructed in the bible, the Word of God. It also increases our intimacy with Him!I strongly agree with Mark Batterson that God wants to have an intimate relationship with us and everyone who seeks Him with our whole heart will find Him. All of us who believe Jesus as our Lord and Savior can hear Him and converse with Him! I have found that its such a treasure and privilege to hear His voice, and such a pleasure too! Thus its so vital to pursue this. Therefore its important to read as many book on this subject as possible, and learn as much as possible and to spend as much time as possible with our Lord and Savior. Mark teaches expertly in this book. He not only give us very practical teachings to help the readers listen to the still small voice, but he also teaches and instructs the readers about other ways that God communicates with us, including through open and closed doors, through Scripture, through people, through promptings, dreams, even through pain, just to name few.Mark writes clearly and in a very easy to read style. He backs his teachings fully with Scriptures. There are many testimonies as well. This book is not only very helpful but it's hard to put down. I was able to download it as soon as it came out and its 4:55 in morning as I quite enjoy the read so far! What make this book very useful is that it not only has teachings about the different ways God speaks to us, but it includes many practical ways that we can begin to practice right away to hear God better every day! In many ways this book is also very motivating as well! I highly recommend this book for anyone who desires strongly to hear the voice of God, who want to seek Him with all his/her heart, and wants to have a more intimate relationship with Him! One source I found extremely helpful as well is How to Understand the Whispers of God by Adam Houge, its quite helpful and it is only 99 cents on Amazon. Another resource I recommend is EncounterTV on youtube where the pastor has many teachings on hearing God and the teachings supports the many points in this wonderful book. I found it so helpful to watch the videos and read this book at the same time. But definitely get this book! Its has much meat and detail and is quite indespensible!

Reading this book was like panning for gold. I had to do a lot of reading though slough to find some nuggets. In and of itself that might be worth it, but a subject as important as this demands better treatment, especially from someone presenting himself as an expert on the topic. The book is ok, but it did not live up to my hopes and expectations. I found some of the book to be very inspirational and motivating, and for that I am very appreciative. However, this is a topic usually pursued by mature Christians and Batterson's piles of trite physical and biological metaphors detract from the subject. I felt like I was reading a book written by Cliff Clavin.The best chapter is the first and it was great. Definitely worth a re-read. Thereafter it began to lose focus. He throws in a lot of fluff about physics, astronomy, biology. Interesting points, but not really related to the topic. On and on and on they go. It was a labor just to get through them. I wanted to hear about how he was hearing the Lord's voice, His leading. Instead I got Trivial Pursuit. I wonder if Batterson was obligated by the publisher to produce "x" amount of words. Hence the reason for so much simple filler. Near he end it gets better. His weakest chapter is the last, on pain. It was obvious that for the most part he was not writing from "whisper" experience, but rather repeating typical sermon points and cliches.If your familiar with Tozer's "The Pursuit of God" and compare it to Batterson's you'll the difference. Tozer is strong, solid, and deep. Batterson's work is lightweight. If you're going to write a book that is so vital to the Christian experience, then make it a meaty one, even if it is less pages, like Tozer's.Even with my criticisms, I would recommend this book to any growing Christian who has a hunger for God. I just expected better.

Whisper is incredible. I walk away from this book feeling more confident and more equipped to hear God's voice better. I also have learned ways that I was hearing Him without even realizing that it was Him.Mark Batterson has masterfully written so much information and guidance and encouragement into a read that you won't want to put down. He discusses finding your own voice, finding God's voice in the midst of the world's noise, and how to develop prophetic perception. He also teaches on the different ways that God speaks to us - His love languages. I highly recommend this book no matter where you are at in your walk with the Lord. I believe that it would be impossible for anyone to walk away from reading it empty handed. More than that, I believe that this is one of those special personal library treasures that readers will return to over and over.

It has been a while since I have read a Mark Batterson book and now that I have jumped back in I am so mad at myself.This book in particular is now up there with one of my favorite books of all time.Book in a but shell...“Is He the loudest voice in your life?
