After waiting what seemed like a lifetime, but in actuality was really months, I received Book #5, Mosiac, which I just finished about an hour ago. I had to have a little time to process because there is so much running through my head right now. The fabulous storyline continued and certainly didn't disappoint! I am so afraid of giving away any of the storylines that I am watching every word I'm writing because I certainly don't want to spoil this for anyone who hasn't yet read it. Yes, it is quite a bit longer than the other books in the series, YES, it is worth it! So many new doors have been opened and so much other dialogue has continued and been clarified. Now I am once again being held in suspense waiting for the next installment. For anyone who has not yet read the series, I suggest you start now so that when the next book comes out, you'll be ready. Michael C. Grumley is one of the greatest writers of this time. He is one of the few writers who actually can paint pictures in your mind as you read. He doesn't just tell a story, he makes the words come alive and for this reader, made me feel like I was right there. I wish I could give this entire series more stars than the allotted 5. I have become one of Mr. Grumley's biggest fans and am once again on pins and needles waiting for the next book. Thank You Michael C. Grumley for your fabulous skills with the English language, dolphin speak (well you know what I mean) and enough factual information along with your limitless imagination for an amazing story. Now am once again in waiting mode!
Another PHENOMENAL book from Michael C Grumley, the 5th in the series. Mosaic has it all: science, suspense, a tad bit of romance, humor and deep relational bonds between humans and other species- all believable and in many cases actually factual.I agree with other reviewers that it is helpful to read the preceding 4 books first. I love this series so much I purchase them in all formats: kindle, paperback and especially LOVE listening to Scott Brick bring the books to life on Audible.Thank you Michael for yet another fun, exciting and pleasurable read. It was so worth the wait and I am now looking forward to Ripple coming to Audible and the sweet anticipation of Book #6. PS I am still bummed that I didn't win the dinner with you and Scott Brick in San Diego last year!
After "Breakthrough" and "Leap," I figured it would be some time before Michael Grumley could match those incredible accomplishments – but I was wrong. In short order appeared "Catalyst" and "Ripple," both superb tales that continue this breathtaking science fiction saga - and now his latest, "Mosaic." Grumley is an author on a roll. In the grand tradition of Arthur C Clarke, James Michener, and John Grisham, he is a prolific and talented American storyteller possessed of extraordinarily clear vision, sense of character, and staggering creativity. "Mosaic," pivots off and continues his prior work. His character development is exceptional, populated with completely believable extraterrestrial beings, sentient, passionate, and accessible terrestrial non-humans, members of the military and intelligence communities, and even academia, and somehow braids these different life-strands into a story-line that will hold you almost relentlessly. Beyond great writing, there is something unusually gratifying about Grumley's world: it is place inhabited by all manner of good and evil but, importantly, guided by an enlightened confidence that we, this planet, will survive. In that sense, "Mosaic" embraces the very best of our species without over-the-top literary conventions. Grumley writes about extraordinary courage without calling on the supernatural forces and muscle to which other authors resort. He gives you access to settings, above and below the sea, on this earthly plane, and beyond, without bombarding you with unnecessary detail. Perhaps the most stunning is his ease with myth, history, culture, and politics. "Mosaic" is masterful narrative, not just outstanding science fiction. Here’s hoping the magic continues and Grumley graces us with more of this saga down the road.
I have to admit that I reread the first 4 books before reading Mosaic. And given the complexity of Mosaic, I am very glad I did. And I would suggest you do the same.This book, was somewhat difficult to follow, as it moved back and forth between multiple sets of characters, and their issues. And just when you think you have figured out the next move, everything changes.
You won’t be disappointed! The characters from books 1-4 are back, like old friends, with another episode. This is so entertaining and fast-moving that I couldn’t put it down. Michael has woven another complex story with a great style that makes you feel you’re part of the adventure. Even the bad guys are intriguing! The scientific bases of these stories are extremely believable—is the ‘government’ really telling us everything?!
I am sorry that I haven’t taken the time to review first four books, all five stars, I was in such a hurry to move on to the next one after discovering Breakthrough. Then withdrawal as I waited impatiently for three months for Mosaic. I love all aspects of the series and was so excited as it became obvious that there would have to be a 6th! Five Stars for the entire series with Mosaic the best yet!
